0800 to 0808
0808 Freephone number is exactly the same as the 0800 Freephone number range in that it is free for the user to call. The change is due to Ofcom slowly running out of 0800 number ranges to allocate. The 0808 numbers are fast gaining recognition with the likes of SKY TV, Granada and many other major corporations now marketing them in their advertising. Charity number range released by OfCom
From August 2007 due to the bad publicity of 08 numbers and the public having little confidence in pricing of these calls a new range of numbers starting with 03 have been produced and can only be allocated to charities, public services and non–profit making organisations. These numbers will cost the caller just the price of a local call and charge the receiver nothing. Public confidence is due to be very high because of the allocation rights and the 03 number range will be known as a specific charity low cost call.
These numbers also give local charities the opportunity to have much more of a national presence rather than just using a standard geographic number, as well as having a more catchy memorable phone number for free.
